Abstract

Yielding under drought stress is a highly complex trait which is largely influenced by minor environmental fluctuation. Genomics-assisted breeding holds great promise for improving such complex traits more efficiently in less time, but requires markers associated with the trait of interest. In this context, F2-3 mapping population (ICG4747 and TMV2NLM) was used to identify markers associated with quantitative trait loci (QTL) for drought tolerance traits (specific leaf area (SLA), SPAD Chlorophyll Meter Reading (SCMR) and harvest index (HI)) at ICAR-Directorate of Groundnut Research (ICAR-DGR) under imposed water stress condition. Among the traits analyzed under imposed water stress condition the HI and (SLA) showed intermediate broad sense heritability. In QTL mapping for SLA, a major QTL qslag01.1 was detected on LG1 while in QTL mapping for HI, a minor QTL qhig01.1 was detected. Both QTLs qslag01.1 and qhig01.1 for SLA and HI showed positive additive effect (19.69, 2.07) indicating that the alleles for SLA and HI at this locus were contributed by ICG4747 and TMV2NLM, respectively. No QTL was identified for SCMR.
